Day off
I had a day off from school yesterday. A whole day, with nowhere to be. Normally this would be something I'd look forward to and revel in. But because I've been feeling lonely, I was somewhat dreading it. I didn't really know what to do with myself.
I decided to just take the day as it came at me and not to wait around for something to happen. So after a quick breakfast and taking care of the animals, I threw on some jeans and went to a meeting in the city. The topic was "trust" and I heard a lot of wisdom from the women in the room. It was a fantastic meeting and one I hope to make more often once I graduate from school.
By the time the meeting ended, I was STARVING. It just so happened that Brian called me and asked me to come meet him for lunch. I was already in the city, so i was only a few minutes away (or so I though). I got super lost (and used my sense of intuition and my limited experience driving in the city) to get me back on track. Twenty minutes later I pulled up to the hospital and picked Brian up. We decided to go to lunch at one of our favorite breweries in Shockhoe Slip, a really neat area near the river.
Lunch with Brian was really nice. It was natural and comfortable, which is a change from a lot of our interactions over the past few weeks/months. It was a good reminder of how things can be when we are both feeling okay. definitely a bright spot in my day.
We took a ride around the neighborhood and scouted a couple of new restuarants and music venues we'd like to try. After I dropped him back off at work, I headed home.
After checking my work email and following up on a couple of things, I started looking for a flight to Connecticut. I found one for a somewhat reasonable price and booked it, which means I get to see my grandmother this month. Wahoo!!! My parents will also be visiting, which is an added bonus.
Looking at my dog Marigold, I realized that she needed some exercise (and so did I). So, off we went to the dogpark where we played and ran after frisbees and tennis balls. She spent a good amount of time sniffing and I decided to walk around the perimeter of the park for my own exercise. It was great - normally at the dogpark I'm really preoccupied with making her run or play (when there aren't other dogs there to entertain her). This time, I just let her do her own thing and I got fifteen minutes of brisk walking in before another dog arrived. IT was great.
Marigold got to play with a boxer/pitbull mix for about thirty min. They ran and ran and ran. Mara looked like she was about to hurl after a while, so we headed home. She slept for the rest of the day. ahhhh, love the dogpark.
I spent about an hour vegetating in front of the TV before I was off to my night class. All in all, a very successful day, despite no planning!!
