One of THOSE days...
I'm having one of those days where I'd rather do ANYTHING but be at work, working.
I'd rather be at the movies or getting a pedicure or reading Harry Potter or sleeping. Anything!
And it's not that work is intolerable or hard or even stressful at this point - it's just work and I don't want to do it. How immature is THAT?!?!
well, actually, work is rather stressful right now. I tried to tender my resignation yesterday but it "wasn't accepted" by the powers that be because they don't want me to leave. Basically, they asked me to define the perfect position with the company and promised that they would try to create it for me.
So here's what I've come up with. And don't laugh, I'm totally serious:
- one month off, PAID, starting Monday. (I'm willing to back down to 1 wk off without pay and three weeks off with 1/2 time pay).
- My new role will consist of mainly sales support from a home office. Specific duties to include follow up, qualifying leads, designing and distributing marketing materials, etc.
- I will be held accountable for the VA quota only as my work will be limited to this state.
- Travel: I will be available to travel to local presentations and meetings (day trips) three days per month. I will be available for one two-night trip per month (destination to be decided by my manager and/or the executive team)
- I will report to one person.
- I will be given 5 additional vacation days to be used at my discretion before the end of the year.
- I will work a flexible 40 hour week.
Is this crazy or what?? If they say no, then they have to let me resign. If they say yes, then they are paying me a ridiculous amount of money to work in my pajamas, pretty much full time.
Ha.
The question is - what if they say yes to all of my demands and I still don't like the job!?!?! And have I really defined the perfect position? I have a lot of self-doubt going on here.
Also - the negotiation itself is kind of scary. On the one side there's me - with seven months of sales and negotiation experience. On the other side there's them - two powerful men with over twenty five years' sales and negotiation experience between them. I just keep reminding myself that I have the most powerful work in the world in my back pocket. "NO."
Anyhoo - I'll update after I have the conversation. In the meantime, I'll be praying and meditating on this...
