Okay, so we found another house. It's an older home (built in 1975), not in a subdivision. In fact, it's on a long road, with only two other houses on it (and one of them is on a farm about ten acres back from the road).

It's incredibly private, on a wooded lot that's almost 1.5 acres. Behind the yard is another 40 acres of forest that was bought by a neighbor so it could never be developed. Two hundred yards from the house is a huge private lake that people kayak, boat, swim, and fish in. It's only for the residents of the nearby neighborhood and our street (about 100 people). Pretty awesome!

The house itself has hardwood floors (almost) throughout the whole thing. There's three full bedrooms upstairs and a loft above that (that could be used as another, smaller bedroom or office). Two full baths upstairs, both that need to be updated a bit.

The master bedroom has a wood-burning fireplace in it, as well as its own private master bath. There's a separate room off the master bedroom that has been used as an office, but it has these incredible windows and skylights that look out into the forest, so our thought is that it should be used as a reading/meditation room.

Downstairs there's a huge kitchen with eat-in area. There are these incredible cabinets - dark, gorgeous wood cabinets. Very "dignified country" style. The family room has a door out to the deck which overlooks the backyard. Unbelievable view. There's also a stone fireplace in the family room.

A formal dining room is next to that, as well as a beautiful formal living room. Lots of space downstairs.

Anyhoo - Brian and I put an offer it, so we'll see what happens. The owners had already received an offer before we put ours in, but they told us that it wasn't the price they were looking for. My gut instinct is that they didn't like the person putting in the offer....

So that's that. I should hear back this morning about the house, but I thought I'd tell you about it. It's such a pretty country home, and it's right in the middle of everything - right in the heart of Mechanicsville, not two miles from the shopping center with restaurants, stores, and a nice Food Lion.

Keep your fingers crossed - Brian says this is "the one."
