What a weekend!

I had a blast in Cape May! Here are the highlights:

Saturday

- took Mara to the ocean and watched her bee-line right into the waves, swimming out above her head! She didn't want to come out of the water.

- got lunch at Robinson's, the best damn sub shop, ever.

- fell asleep under a tree for a couple of hours, awoken only by the dog when she wanted us to throw the ball for her.

- had dinner at the Lobster House. Picture an old marina (circa 1922) with an outdoor seafood joint. Good food, cold beer, ocean breeze. It's awesome.

- walked on the boardwalk in Cape May. Stopped to play some skee ball (I think I may be the best skee ball player ever!). Ate soft serve ice cream looking at the ocean.

- went out for a beer with Brian's parents at the "fishing club." This place is hilarious.....it's a members-only club that serves $1 draft beers and has live music and dancing. You can have a $4 dinner (three course meal, mind you!) and drink all night for a buck a beer. Crazy. They also run trips to Atlantic City, Vegas, etc. So why's it called the fishing club? No reason...the club itself has no affiliation with fishing. That cracks me up.

Sunday we lazed around even more and took Mara to the beach again. We had a barbeque with Brian's parents and got on the road around dinner time.

It was such a great weekend! It's always good to remember that it's possible to be content and happy, no matter who you are around. Brian's parents can be difficult (in my opinion), but we had a great visit together because I was willing to accept them for who they are and didn't feel it necessary to go toe-to-toe with them.

Towards the end of Sunday I was ready to be home in my own space, but all in all, I'm very proud of the way I was able to behave myself this weekend. It made for a really pleasant experience with a couple of really special memories.
