On the road again
I'm in Landover, Maryland at a Hampton Inn that overlooks the FedEx stadium. It's only about an hour from my house, but I'm staying here tonight because traffic is so damn bad in this area that it's easier to do this than try to drive to my appointment in the morning. sheesh.
Had a good meeting today...I think it went well. The woman was slightly combatitive and definitely didn't respond well to my boss. She totally overreacted to something that he said (quite innocently). She totally rubbed him the wrong way and vice versa. Luckily, I was able to connect with her, so hopefully our relationship will be healthy and productive.
It turns out that even when I have no really good idea of what I'm doing, I am able to pull meetings like this one off. That makes me feel good. I didn't pretend to have all the answers, nor did I bullshit a whole lot. We just had a conversation about how I can support her school district. So that was good.
Things at home are good--Bri and I are working on some stuff but I feel like we are on the same side again. I was able to communicate how important it is to me to have some sort of homecoming after being on the road. And he was able to share with me some of the stuff going on in his head. It's nice to be able to be so honest with each other--and a good reminder why we are working so hard at our relationship.
Sometimes marriage is easy and fun, but more and more I find that we are not in that stage right now. Things are a little tough right now....and we are working really hard to find balance. We are working on it together, though, so I guess that's all that matters. I have a lot of faith in him and in us. And that makes me feel good.
